Joan Jonas

The Hand Reverts to Its Own Movement…

PERFORMANCE
19 July 2007
Spazio Culturale Antonio Ratti

The performance was specially conceived for the course and was inspired by a text by Aby Warburg.

The work alternated a solo performance with choral movements involving the young artists attending the Course. Props and videos dialogued with space, together with live images amplifying specific moments of the performance. The performance focused on the act of drawing, in relation to movement and the projection of images. Jonas defied conventions and definitions with an incessant "time sculpture", where fairytale, literature, television, mythology, dance, noise, and music were translated into performances, videos, installations, and means through which the artist investigated the relationship between reality and its reflection.
