Angela Völker got her Ph.D. in Art History in 1972 at the University of Vienna. In 1972-1973, she worked as an assistant curator at the Museum of Applied Arts in Frankfurt/ Main, and in 1973, she was a writer at the Reallexikon zur Deutschen Kunstgeschichte in Munich. From 1974 to 1976, she was curator of textiles at the Bavarian National Museum in Munich and from 1977 until 2009 she chaired the same position at the MAK Austrian Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna where she became vice-director from 1986 to 1993 and retired at the end of 2009. While working in the museum, she also has been a lector at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna (1977-2010), at the University of Vienna, Institute of Art History (1995-2000), and visiting professor at the Academy of Arts in Linz (1993-2005). In 1997-1998 she had a fellowship at the Metropolitan Museum of Arts in the Islamic Department. Her main fields of work and publications are: Fashion and fabrics of the Wiener Werkstätte, Russian Avantgarde, Biedermeier textiles, Oriental carpets, lace, and Coptic textiles.
